Boskalis and Van Oord build Second Maasvlakte

The Rotterdam Port Authority announced its intention today to grant the construction work for Maasvlakte 2 to a consortium consisting of Royal Boskalis Westminster nv and Van Oord nv. The contract will be signed early next year.

The consortium will build the first section of Maasvlakte 2 between 2008 and 2013. The work includes the construction of sea defenses, the first harbor areas, 2.5 km of quay walls, and the road and rail links needed to provide access to Maasvlakte 2. After the completion of the work, the consortium will also provide maintenance for Maasvlakte 2 for the first five years. The contract involves a total of approximately 1 billion, 50% of which is for Boskalis.
